As soon as you start your business, the first thing that comes to mind is to have a website. There are so many options out there, both in terms of platforms to use and also strategy or approach to follow. There is not a single way to make websites and it will all depends on yourself and your business. I know that you might be wondering whether hiring a web designer is the right choice or not for you right now. Let’s dive right in.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “She’s a web designer, so she’ll want me to outsource it”. But friend, I just told you there is no right or wrong way to do this, and my goal is to be transparent with you, 100%. So here it comes:

Hiring a web designer won’t solve your problems.
Even if I call myself a branding therapist, I am not a therapist, really. What a website can do for you is enhance your business and yep, help you grow. But only if done properly.
You are unique, just like your business. So before I can tell you YES or NO, here are some questions to consider.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Do I know what I’m going to do with my website?
Am I selling something, advertising my services, raising awareness about a topic, or something else?
2. Do I have a clear idea of how I want to structure it?
Think in terms of pages, what to include in them, and the overall content of your website.
3. Is my branding on point?
Do I have a clear branding strategy in place, and do I have colors, fonts, logos, and all of that jam? Pssst: start with a mood board!
4. Do I have the budget to outsource it?
Am I ready to take the next step?

If most of your answers are no, then go with the cheapest option and start from there!
My first website was a blog, and I completely DIY myself because I had no idea what I was doing. I was just playing around until it became too horrible and I got myself a template. It gave me a lot of experience and insight, specifically into WordPress and why it’s such a good platform for your business. But the result… damn that shit was trash.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some very good template websites are PipDig (My travel blog website was built using one of their themes!), Creative Market is another incredible resource for ANYTHING creative, themes & templates included. And lastly, Envato Elements. Few people know about this so it’s still a good option for you!
If you answered yes and you are not hiring a web designer, you are doing yourself and your business a big disservice!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Try to walk in your dream client’s shoes and ask yourself: would you buy from someone who put together a website the night before, or are you naturally drawn to an aesthetically pleasing website that fully represents your brand and your unique strengths?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Your website is your chance to finally show up as the professional you are and to finally feel legit: don’t miss this opportunity.
Does your business have a website? And if so, did you designed it? I’m curious to know!
